Description | HIRA is the human homologue of two cell cycle-regulated repressors of histone gene expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Hir1p and Hir2p. In yeast, Hir1p and Hir2p control histone gene expression through the cell cycle. In human cells, HIRA contributes to formation of transcriptionally-repressive heterochromatin in senescent cells and also has roles in transcription-coupled chromatin assembly. |
